Success is one of those things I seek in life and so does everyone. The question that has been running through my mind however is why do some people succeed greatly and others remain the same despite their talk of big dreams?

As for me this has been on my mind and being that I have many dreams and goals I am pursuing, I want to excel and be in the list of people who succeeded greatly.

As I walk this path toward success I am discovering subtle truths that we were never taught and those that set people apart when it comes to success.

  1. YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN EXECUTE YOUR DREAMS BEST.

Most people make a mistake when they hand over their dream to someone else expecting they will pursue it on their behalf.

These people do not understand and believe in your dream as you do. You are the only one who will pursue it relentlessly even when it seems like it is not working. They may leave it when they get to that point.

Food for thought:

The best cure for this is to use these people as your support system not anchor as you pursue your dream.

  1. SUCCESS IS A SUM TOTAL OF SMALL GOALS, WELL DONE.

When you hear dreamers speak they speak of big things that leave us in awe.

What most people don’t understand is success is a result of achieving small milestones as you head toward the major goal. It’s one step at a time.

Someone may say “I will be a CEO by the end of next year”.

In reality this person may be the laziest employee, reaches work late, spends time on social media, hardly goes an extra mile in the office. It is a wonder how such a person will hold a company.

It would be more realistic for such a person to set goals such as improve on leadership skills, be a hard worker, go back to school, that would help him or her acquire the traits of a successful CEO. This will then lead them to their major goal of being a CEO.

Food for thought:

If you are not attaining your daily goals, what makes you think you will attain your 10 year goals? #let’s be realistic.

  1. SUCCESS REQUIRES EXECUTION AND HARD WORK

See, dreaming is easy. Very easy. It even feels nice as we do it. Right?

Now executing it is the hard part. Not everyone wants to do the work, yet people keep dreaming and hoping that their dreams will come to pass. It shall never be.

To attain your dreams and goals you must execute them and work pretty hard to attain them.

I remember once Maina Kageni shared a story on radio, that once as he got to work that early morning he met with one of the richest families in Kenya leaving their breakfast meeting. Do I say it was well before 6 am? Are you awake by then?

Most of us see successful people and say “wow how did they do it?” The simplest answer is

“Hard work and discipline.” There is truly no shortcut.

Food for thought:

Don’t be stuck in the dreaming phase move on to the execution stage and work hard.

  1. SELF DISCIPLINE

Discipline is that thing we all hate.

Choosing to pick an apple when a seductive slice of pizza is calling you.

Choosing to wake up at 4am to get more work done when it is easier to snooze till 9 am.

Choosing to say no to your friends call to go out to that club to preserve your integrity, when it was easier to say yes and maintain peace.

Choosing to tear that number from the hot guy you met yesterday so as not to compromise your marriage when it could have been much easier to say yes and could have been way fun.

Choosing to save your money so as to purchase a new equipment for your business, when you have always wanted a new pair of shoes and the latest trend is calling you.

Food for thought:

We all love to hate discipline because it is uncomfortable and never fun. Yet that is the key to attaining success in every area of life.

  1. YOUR DAILY ROUTINE IS AN INDICATOR OF YOUR BEING SUCCESSFUL

What do you do daily as a matter of routine and habit? Think about it for a while.

Then ask yourself this, how much of that is helping or distracting you from moving toward your goals.

Is your goal to have a successful marriage? Are you working towards that or are your flirting with each man or woman every chance you get?

Is your goal to build your professional personal brand? Are you working toward it or busy insulting each person who crosses you? We all know our reputation always precedes us.

So, the most dominant routine and habits you have adopted will honestly point toward where you are headed. The hard truth is our habits become who we are.

What I have done is try replace bad habits that I have with positive one. For example, each time I feel the procrastinating feeling come on, I immediately do that which I want to procrastinate.

Food for thought:

It is kind of obvious that a marriage where one of the spouses is a player will not last for long. Same goes to attaining your goals if your habits are not good, there will be little chance of success.

God bless you all and remember to always speak life to all.
